I don’t give my phone number to just anybody. It’s not on my website or my Facebook page.
God, however, does give out His phone number. Bear with me a moment and I’ll explain.
BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT
Don’t you love it when you buy someone a present you know really fits them? My oldest daughter gave me a book for Christmas by Bob Goff called Dream Big. She knows what I like. I recently launched a new ministry called Embrace Your Destiny, and she gets the passion I have to fulfill my destiny and help others accomplish theirs.
Bob’s ministry is familiar to me, and I’ve heard a few of his teachings. However, this book gave me a chance to get to know him up close and personal.
BOB GIVES HIS PHONE NUMBER TO EVERYONE
It turns out that Bob gives out his phone number to everybody. He stashes it in the back of all his books, and I imagine it’s a footnote in all his correspondence. Since Bob is a New York Times bestselling author, his name is practically a household word. So, guess how many phone calls Bob gets in one day.
One hundred. That’s right, 100. He says he can’t get anything done, but that’s terrific.
Now Bob is an energetic guy who doesn’t sleep much, and he loves engaging others in conversation. Even though he spends a good part of his day on the phone, he manages to spend time with his family and operate a full time writing and speaking ministry.
I get overwhelmed just thinking about it.
AVAILABILITY AND OPPORTUNITY
But Bob made an important point in his book:
“Here’s why I did it: our availability to one another is a pretty good measure of how available we will be to opportunities that come our way. Far from being a nuisance, each of these phone calls is a reminder and has been the best part of writing books.”
Humor me while I make an analogy here.
First, Bob talks about availability.
God is always available. He loves receiving calls from his kids, but he will also pick up the phone from strangers. He even loves telemarketers. God spends a lot of time talking to us because our relationship with Him is important to Him. It’s God’s big priority.
Next, Bob points out that availability leads to opportunity.
EVERY CONVERSATION WITH GOD IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO KNOW HIM BETTER
Every conversation with God is an opportunity to know Him better. When we spend lots of time not only talking to God but listening to Him, we get to know Him up close and personal. As we listen to Him, He shares His heart with us; as He shares His heart, He reveals our destiny. Therefore, every talk with God gives us a double opportunity: to know Him better and discover what He has called us to do.
As a writer, I won’t accomplish anything if I don’t take time to sit at my computer. I have reams of words that God has put in my heart to speak, but I won’t fulfill my destiny if I don’t write them down. Likewise, if I don’t make spending time with God a top priority, I won’t hear what He wants me to share.
God wants the whole world to know Him up close and personal. When we sit cross-legged on our beds with an open Bible and an open heart, He says, “tell everyone how much I love them. They really need to know.”
So go ahead. Pick up the phone and talk to God. You don’t need to speak in King James language, and you don’t have to have all your ducks in a row. Just tell Him about your day, and don’t forget to spend time listening. You may not hear anything right away but make it a practice and you will.
By the way, here’s Bob Goff’s cellphone number: 619 985-4747. Tell him I sent you.

We have a very small Church in a small town that I would love to have Bob speak at. Our church is dwindling away & not many new people coming in. The few of us need to be lifted ❤️ Love your ministries, books & Heart! Kristie Renfro
