two women arguing, mercy triumphs over judgment

Since the Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision, a stream of vitriol on both sides of the opinion has surfaced on social media. I am a firm pro-lifer in every way, but I am disappointed in the lack of love and honor Christians often display when they speak their minds. My blog endeavors to help people embrace their true destiny, so I would be negligent if I did not address the topic of mercy. Let your destiny be marked by mercy because mercy triumphs over judgment.

Jesus was merciful toward sinners, but not so tolerant toward the religious Pharisees who were constantly judging others (including Jesus and his disciples) if they didn’t obey all the Jewish rules. In their zeal to follow the letter of the law, the Pharisees tried to turn people away from Jesus. It seems absurd to us now that they would reprimand Him for healing on the sabbath.

In our zeal for righteousness, we can turn people away too, if we don’t treat those with opposing opinions with love and dignity. We are all made in the image of God.

JESUS WAS MERCIFUL

For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment. James 2:13 NKJV

Jesus showed mercy to the woman caught in adultery. Her turnaround began with his refusal to condemn her. (John 8:3-11)

How blessed are you when you demonstrate tender mercy! For tender mercy will be demonstrated to you. Matthew 5:17 TPT

When we treat others with mercy, we are treated with mercy. We are acting like Jesus.

THE BLOOD OF JESUS SPEAKS BETTER

Innocent blood is shed when an abortion is performed. This is one of the seven sins that God hates in Proverbs 6:16, 17. This reminds me of the story of Cain and Abel in Genesis 4:10.

When Cain murdered his brother Abel the Lord said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to me from the ground.”

Blood has a voice. But what does that mean, and what does it speak?

Hebrews 12:24 gives us the answer. The Passion translation explains it well. “And we have come to Jesus who established a new covenant with his blood sprinkled upon the mercy seat; blood that continues to speak from heaven, ‘forgiveness,’ a better message than Abel’s blood that cries from the earth, ‘justice.’”

When Jesus died on the cross, his blood replaced forever the animal sacrifices offered in the temple to take away sin (Hebrews 9:11-14).

The blood of Jesus descends from heaven and redeems. However, the blood of Abel rises from earth and calls for justice (one translations says vengeance). But it has no power to change a corrupt system. The blood of Jesus not only transforms us, it also carries his character and nature. Therefore, we cannot change the hearts of people who support abortion by condemning them. Only the love of Christ can change people.

GOD LOVES ALL HIS CHILDREN

Why did the woman caught in adultery sin? Was she starved for love and chose the wrong way to fulfill her desire? Had she been sexually molested as a child and fell into a life of promiscuity? At any rate, Jesus welcomed her even before she had an opportunity to change.

Women who seek abortions, or those who advocate for them, often do so out of a place of emotional trauma. Just like us, they seek love and freedom. They won’t find it by listening to criticism and condemnation. They only will discover it in the arms of people who act like Jesus.

The greatest weapon against evil in our arsenal is love. God is love. Love and mercy go arm in arm. When we act like Jesus, we are walking in our destiny. So let’s let our destinies be marked by mercy and love because mercy triumphs over judgment.
